Free Movies Online, by Spreety

May 28, 2010 in Television

Here are the right places to watch free movies online.

Los Angeles, CA

What do you think when you hear the phrase “free movies online”? Is it suspicion of copyright infringement, shadowy looking download sites, or excitement over the tremendous viewing possibilities?

While the checkered past of free movies online has some people  cautious, Spreety TV Online at http://Spreety.com has created a video to set the record straight about the right places to watch free movies online.

Some of the new players are Crackle, EPIX, Fancast, and SlashControl. Crackle is backed by Sony Pictures and has hundreds of free movies such as Ghostbusters, Godzilla, and St. Elmo’s Fire. EPIX is the new movie site from Paramount, MGM, and Lionsgate, and is the perfect place to watch Ironman, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and many more popular movies. Fancast is backed by the cable giant Comcast and has hundreds more movies, such as Chaplin, Captain America, and Naked Gun 2.5.   SlashControl was started by AOL TimeWarner, and has many more movies such as Sparticus, Ronin, and the classic western Hang ‘em High.

Those sites join the other mainstays of free movies, including Hulu, Veoh, and Joost. Even YouTube has jumped on the bandwagon and legally hosts free movies online, such as classic Shirley Temple films like The Little Princess and Heidi.

Several TV sites also have films online, including American Movie Classics (AMC), Syfy, ABC Family, and TNT.

If you have a Netflix subscription, the Watch Instantly feature comes free for the Owner account. Top films to watch online include Wall-E, Bolt, The Nightmare Before Christmas, as well as the extensive list of STARZ play.

So, if you are going to watch a movie on a computer, here are a few quick tips:

1.    Turn the screen saver and power save features to longer than the length of the movie.

2.    If watching via an inexpensive wireless router, like the ones AT&T U-Verse hands out for free, make certain the router is well ventilated, as extended viewing could cause some minor over-heating, causing the router to reset, thus causing the movie to take an unexpected intermission.

3.    Otherwise, sit back and enjoy.
All of the links to the above are available on the “Movies Online” tab of Spreety TV Online at http://Spreety.com .

Music Online, by Spreety

May 28, 2010 in Movies

There is a lot of music online. Here are the right places to go.

Online music has come a long ways since the infamous file sharing days. Today, there are so many legal places to listen to music online; there is no need for the alternatives. So, Spreety.com put together a video about the right places to listen to music online, including radio stations and music videos.

Among the top picks, AOL Radio hosts thousands of radio stations categorized by genre. The genres include Blues, Classic, Christian Rock, Jazz, R&B, Country, and more. In addition to the genres, many local stations are online, such as, for Los Angeles, the popular K-EARTH 101 and KNX 1070.

AOL’s Spinner has full CD parties, where a variety of top CD’s can be selected and played online. Individual tracks as well as the entire CD can be played on demand.

For music videos, several of the TV stations have their music videos online. As examples, BET (Black Entertainment Television), CMT (Country Music Television), GAC (Great America Country), MTV, VH1, and VH1 Classic all host an extensive library of top performers online.

Possibly, the most unique of the online music players is Pandora Radio. Pandora is completely customizable, and is based on the ten year old Music Genome Project. The Music Genome Project classifies every song based on what each individual song sounds like. By typing in a few preferences, Pandora is able to play many more songs of a similar nature. If a song plays that one does not like, a simple thumbs-down will remove it and songs similar to it. Pandora has taken customization to a whole new level.

Lastly, Yahoo! Kids hosts thousands of music videos that are perfectly appropriate for the little ones.

If you would like to learn more about music online, please visit the Spreety TV Online site, and look under TV Genres, Music & Radio to enjoy music online.

Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) for Spreety TV Online Search

May 28, 2010 in Television

Spreety TV Online announces a fun way to integrate online TV with your web site.

Los Angeles,

When Microsoft architected Windows Communication Foundation, little did they know it would be this much fun.

The flexibility of WCF enabled Spreety TV Online to cost effectively implement the Open Spreety project. Spreety tracks the legal places to watch TV, news, sports, and movies online, and the Open Spreety project shares the links with everyone via services for reuse into their web sites and blogs.

While Spreety utilized WCF, other web sites can use a variety of service technologies, including WCF, Web Services, and Javascript, giving people the empowerment for best fit opportunities.

For example, a web site about the 1950’s could spice up their site with links to 1950’s TV shows. The same is true for genre web sites, like western, science fiction, home & garden, sports, mystery, and more.

Fan sites of TV shows would enjoy the zero maintenance aspect of the online TV links. For example, ABC, NBC, and FOX recently changed their links for watching TV shows, and the Spreety database kept in synch. Certain shows switched from one place to another, like Pushing Daisies (ABC to WB) and Medium (NBC to CBS), and the Spreety database kept in synch.

“When I learned service oriented architecture (SOA), the available examples were boring”, according to Spreety co-founder Ron Laughton. “Working with online TV via services is much more fun. I would encourage programmers everywhere to try out the Web Services and WCF with Spreety.”

Training videos and a custom code generator are available at the following link: http://www.spreety.com/Membership-APIs.aspx

How To Watch PBS Kids TV Online, By Spreety

May 28, 2010 in Movies

A new Spreety.com video gives tips and tricks to watch PBS Kids TV online.

For the little ones, Spreety TV Online has created a new video highlighting tips and tricks for watching PBS Kids TV online.

To start, from the main Spreety TV Online site, select “TV Sites”, then “PBS Kids”. The PBS Kids video player will appear. The player defaults to the “Channels” tab. It is recommended to switch to the “Shows” tab. Each of the shows will randomly re-order each time the shows tab is selected, so if you do not see your show, use the down arrow to scroll for additional shows.

Once a show has been selected, it is recommended to click on the “Full Episodes” on the list. For each full episode, the player has a pause, slider bar for forward / rewind, a “Big” button for full screen, and a “CC” button for closed captions. When watching multiple full episodes in full screen, unfortunately, the PBS Kids player will reduce back down to the small size between episodes, so just be ready to click “Big” a second time.

The shows with full episodes online are Animalia, Arthur, Cyberchase, Dragonfly TV, The Electric Company, FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman, Fizzy’s Lunch Lab, Kratts’ Creatures, Martha Speaks, Maya & Miguel, Postcards from Buster, SciGirls, Wilson & Ditch Digging America, and Wordgirl.

As for PBS Sprout TV shows online, not much is available as full episodes on the PBS site. As alternatives, for Sesame Street, use the SesameStreet.org website, and for Caillou, use Netflix video on demand.

There’s plenty more to watch. If you would like to learn more about kids TV online, please visit the Spreety TV Online site, and look under TV Genres, Kids.

Spreety Upgrades to Cloud Computing

May 28, 2010 in Arts & Entertainment

Growth is a nice problem to solve.Los Angeles, CA

Growth is a nice problem to have for any small business. What if your business went from 20 people a month to 200,000 a month in less than a year?

Spreety’s Guide to Watch TV Shows Online (http://Spreety.com) did just that, and 5 server upgrades later, decided to try something new: cloud computing.

With traditional server upgrades, the process was labor and planning intensive. Typically, the upgrade would involve a code and data freeze, extensive reinstallation, and patience while the domain name updates trickled through the Internet. While the upside of traditional servers is control, the downside is that the hardware had to be expensive enough to handle the peaks of activity.

Enter the cloud computing server solution. The cloud is an amorphous collective of computing power that is inexpensive and handles peak activity gracefully. Billing is based on usage.

“For a growing business, we no longer have to buy powerful machines in anticipation of peaks,” remarks Spreety co-founder Ron Laughton. “Spreety can now grow without interruption, and we simply pay as we go for only what we need.”

The vendor of choice was Mosso’s Rackspace Cloud. Other cloud solutions, such as Microsoft’s Azure, are coming soon.

Los Angeles, CA

Have you ever wanted to enhance or replace your TV with the latest technology? Would you like to know how?

The founders of Spreety’s Guide to Watch TV Shows Online, who replaced their TV with a PC in 2007, have posted a free e-book titled, “The Entertainment PC: A How To Guide”.

The visually appealing e-book is on the Spreety.com site, and was written in five sections. The “Introduction” section explains why many TV shows and movies are legally available online for free. The “What’s Online” section discusses the best places to watch TV online. The “What to Buy” section discusses the hardware to fully enjoy high definition online TV. The “How to Configure” section discusses the optimal viewing configuration for a Windows Vista machine. The “Usage Tips” section wraps up the document with miscellaneous viewing advice.

“I enjoy our entertainment PC,” says Ron Laughton, co-founder of Spreety. “We use it for TV shows, sports, movies, music, home videos, video games, and photo slideshows. Our new e-book empowers those who are interested in doing the same with their entertainment center.”

As the case for watching TV online becomes stronger, incorporating a PC into the entertainment center may become more common. For those with a taste for the new, the free Spreety e-book is worth a look.

Hollywords Added to Spreety.com

May 28, 2010 in Arts & Entertainment

With Hollywood, knowing the talk is part of walking the walk.

Los Angeles, CA

With Hollywood, knowing the talk is part of walking the walk. So where can you learn the dynamic terminology of such a trendy industry?

Enter Hollywords, an encyclopedic dictionary of thousands of entertainment terms. Hollywords has been meticulously compiled since 2002, and a three thousand term subset is available on Spreety.com.

The terms span the sophisticated (i.e. avant-garde), to the technical (i.e. variable bit-rate encoding), to the pop-culture (chick flick). Everyone from a casual fan to a chiseled industry expert will find something new to learn.

“At Spreety, we were looking for a quality glossary to compliment our free Entertainment PC e-book. The Hollywords knowledge and depth far exceeded our expectations”, Ron Laughton, co-founder of Spreety’s Guide to Watch TV Shows Online.

“People often use slang and technical jargon to exclude the uninitiated from the inner circle. Hollywords breaks down these barriers and Spreety is an ideal platform to help us spread the word”, Richard W. Kroon, founder of Hollywords.

One question remains: will a word like Spreety ever make the Hollywords list? Only time will tell.

Integrate Online TV Links with Your Web Site, Powered By Open Spreety

May 28, 2010 in Television

Spreety TV Online announces an easy way to integrate online TV with your web site.

Los Angeles, CA

Wouldn’t it be great if most web sites included relevant links to TV shows online? Now there is an easy way to add legal links to top TV shows with Spreety TV Online.

Spreety TV Online is pleased to announce the Open Spreety project, which empowers web sites to include dynamically updating links from the Spreety database into their web sites with a simple script.

The Spreety code generator builds custom scripts for quick insertion into a web site’s html. The code generator can deliver visual links via many categories, including Search, Movies, New & Recently Added, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, Action & Adventure, Art & Entertainment, Business, Comedy, Crime, Documentary, Drama & Thriller, Family, Games & Competitions, History, Home & Garden, Horror & Suspense, Kids, Medical, Music & Radio, Mystery, News & Commentary, Reality, Religion & Spirituality, Romance, SciFi & Fantasy, Science, Shopping, Soap Operas, Sports, Superheroes, Talk Shows, Variety, Western, and Youth TV shows.

Display formats are in two sizes: the 670 pixel wide format with show details, and the 93 pixel wide graphic only format to conserve space.

For example, a web site about the 1960’s could spice up their site with links to 1960’s TV shows.

“This is a win-win for everyone involved”, according to Spreety co-founder Ron Laughton. “We created Spreety to educate people about the legal places to watch free TV online, and now we can share through top notch technology.”

Training videos and a custom code generator are available at the following link: http://www.spreety.com/Membership-APIs.aspx
